In this badge course, you are going underground to discover one of the most important living worlds on Earth: soil.

Soil is not just dirt. It is full of life, mystery, movement, food, water, air, tiny creatures, fungi, bacteria, roots, and hidden habitats. Without healthy soil, plants would struggle to grow, animals would lose food and shelter, and ecosystems would begin to fall apart.

In this course, you will become a Soil Scientist. You will investigate different soil types, test how soil holds water, look for signs of soil life, build your own mini soil profile, and discover what makes soil healthy.

By the end of this course, you will never look at the ground in the same way again.

Not all soil feels the same. Some soil is gritty. Some is sticky. Some is crumbly and dark. In this module, Junior Explorers learn about sand, clay, and loam, then test their own soil samples.

What Makes Soil Healthy?
Healthy soil is not just about texture. It also needs organic matter, air, water, living organisms, and protection. In this module, Junior Explorers learn what helps soil thrive and what can harm it.

Soil Heroes and Soil Protectors
Soil can be damaged, but it can also recover when we care for it. In this module, Junior Explorers learn how worms, leaves, roots, and people can help protect soil.
